Safety First

  • All students and instructors must complete safety orientation. 
  • Safety glasses, closed-toe shoes, and appropriate clothing are required (ideally clothing that covers skin, is made of natural materials, fits fairly close to the body and is okay to get dirty or damaged). 
  • Long hair must be tied back; no dangling jewelry or loose clothing near equipment. 
  • Ear plugs, hair ties, and bobby pins will be provided as needed. 
  • Use proper ventilation when soldering or working with chemicals. 
  • Only approved chemicals allowed. 
  • Note the location of fire extinguishers, fire blankets and exits. 
  • Torches must be turned off when not in use. 
  • Smoking, alcohol and drugs are not permitted. 


Tool & Equipment Use

  • Use only tools you’ve been trained to operate safely.
  • Tools may not be removed from the studio.
  • Report damaged tools or unsafe conditions immediately.

Studio Cleanliness

  • Clean your workspace as you go. 
  • Return all tools to their proper places after use. 
  • No food or open drink allowed in work areas. 
  • All broken sawblades and sharp items need to be discarded into sharps containers. 


Materials & Storage

  • Use communal materials respectfully and avoid waste. 
  • Make sure that all of your tools go back into your toolbox at the end of each class. 
  • Students taking multi-week classes will use the same toolbox each week. You may bring a personal lock for your toolbox to keep your in-progress pieces. At the end of your class, the lock will be cut off if the key is missing. 


Access & Attendance

  • Only authorized users may be in the studio.
  • Guests are not permitted to use tools or equipment. 


Respectful Behavior

  • This is an inclusive, safe space. Discrimination or harassment will not be tolerated. 
  • Keep noise to a respectful level. 
  • Treat others, their work, and studio property with respect. 


Liability & Emergency

  • All users must sign a liability waiver and emergency contact form before beginning class.
  • Report all injuries immediately. 
  • First aid kits and eye wash station are located near the sink.


 Photography

  • Ask permission before taking photos of others or their work. 
  • The studio may document activities for promotional purposes. Opt out by notifying your instructor.
